AGM future vision

The AGM will be this coming Saturday, 31st March, starting at 11am.

The meeting will present the financial accounts and be open to any questions and clarification.

We will also take a look at a future vision for the parish in light of the diocesan plan that looks towards 2030.

If you have any a love for the parish and wish to hear and make valuable contributions to our discussions then please do attend.

We plan to eat together afterwards so please do bring some food with you.

The Beginning of Lent

Shrove Tuesday was traditional a time to prepare for lent. A part of that preparation would be to be shriven by going to confession. We would also have a big feast before the fast by eating up all those things not used in Lent.

In this spirit confessions with exposition will be made available at Christ the King between 4pm – 7pm. At 7.30pm we will gather in the parish room and do some good old feasting! Pancakes will be available, please bring something, savoury or sweet, for fillings plus other food if you wish.

The fasting begins on Ash Wednesday with traditional ashing. Masses in the parish will be:

8.00am Latin Mass Christ the King.

10.00am St Joachim’s.

7.30pm Christ the King

St Stephen’s Medals

It was wonderful to be able to award 3 of our faithful servers with the St Stephen’s medal. Receiving the medals means our servers formally join the guild of St Stephen promising to pray and reflect on the mystery they serve in the mass. We have a really good group of servers at both Christ the King and St Joachim. A big thank you to Deacon Eugene for helping organise this ceremony and the head servers who guide our young servers each week.

Epiphany Chalk

20 + C + M + B + 19

Dear friends,

One of the traditions associated with Epiphany is to bless one’s house, and to mark the entrance with blessed chalk. This can be done by gathering the family together in front of the crib-scene or other suitably devotional item, with the head of the house leading the prayer below; or if you would prefer, a priest can perform the blessing – ask Fr Neil or me, we would be more than happy to do so.

Let us pray. O Lord, Almighty God, bless this house that it may become a shelter of health, chastity, self-conquest, humility, goodness, mildness, obedience to the commandments, and thanksgiving to God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Upon this house and those who dwell herein may Your blessing remain forever, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

At Mass today we will be blessing the chalk, this is then used to write the inscription over the entrance to the house. The three letters in the middle stand for the names tradition gives to the three wise men (Caspar, Melchior, Balthazar), but also for the Latin Christus Mansionem Benedicat (may Christ bless this house); with the numbers at the beginning and end being this year. Do take some chalk as you leave.

Welcome to Fr Thomas!

Fr Thomas Mason, having finished his studies at Oscott, was ordained priest on the 30th June, at the Birmingham Oratory. Fr Thomas joins us to serve the parish and Ordinariate communities both here in Eastbourne and in Chichester.

We welcome Fr Thomas with great joy and look forward to him exercising his ministry amongst us. Please pray for Fr Thomas as he begins his priestly ministry and let us do our best to support and encourage him.

A Great Confirmation

It was with great joy that this year we were able to see 15 young people from the parish complete their confirmation course and be confirmed by Bishop Richard Moth at Our Lady of Ransom alongside a good number of other young people from the deanery.

A big thanks to those who organised the confirmation service and those who provided music and over coming last minute hitches!
